Quick Cards vs. deck cards

Every card starts in one of two places, and the Card Editor adapts to each.

Quick Cards: capture first, organize later

A Quick Card is a card that doesn't belong to a deck yet. Create one from the menu bar (New Quick Card) or from the Brain Dump page, and the Card Editor opens in Quick Card Mode — no setup, no deck decisions, just a blank card. Quick Cards live in the Brain Dump until you assign them to a deck.

Use Quick Cards when the point is speed: an idea worth keeping, a word worth learning, something you'll organize later.

Deck cards: build with intent

Deck Mode is for working through a deck — creating cards in sequence and refining the ones you have. Open it by creating a new deck, or from any deck in the Library or Card Controls.

To start a new deck, click New Deck in the Library (or Create New Deck from the menu bar). The Deck Builder asks for a title, plus an optional summary and card color — click Create Deck and the Card Editor opens on your new deck, ready for its first card.

What changes between modes

The editing tools are identical in both modes. What changes is the side panel: in Deck Mode you move through the deck's cards in their deck order with a position indicator ("5 / 20"); in Quick Card Mode you cycle through your Brain Dump captures, newest first. Either way you can save, create, duplicate, delete, and undo.

Moving Quick Cards into decks

When a capture is ready for a real home, right-click it (or a whole selection) in the Brain Dump and choose Assign to Deck — see Using the Brain Dump.
