Using the Card Editor

The Card Editor is where cards are made: a dedicated window with a true-to-size canvas for each face of the card. Everything is freeform — click anywhere to add text, drag elements wherever you want them, and layer text, images, code, and math with pixel-level control.

It opens in one of two modes: Quick Card Mode for cards in the Brain Dump and Deck Mode for cards that belong to a deck. Learn the difference.

The canvas

Each card has two faces. The A|B indicator above the canvas shows which face you're editing — click it (or press Space) to flip. Click any empty spot to start a text element; double-click existing text to edit it. Drag elements to position them, use the handles to resize, and Shift-click to select several at once. Content that hangs off the card edge won't render on mobile — the editor warns you when something is out of bounds.

What you can put on a card

  • Rich text — twelve font families, sizes 8–72, bold/italic/underline/strikethrough, highlight, text color, bullet and numbered lists, per-paragraph alignment and line height
  • Images and GIFsadded four ways, auto-scaled to fit the card
  • Code blocks — multi-line code with language selection and syntax highlighting
  • Block math — write LaTeX, get crisp math that renders identically on your iPhone

More on the last two in Code blocks and math.

The toolbar

From left to right: zoom (85%–200%), clear card, flip card, card color, font family and size, text styles, highlight, text color, math block, code block, alignment, lists, line height, and image upload. The alignment control is context-aware: with one text element selected it aligns the text inside its box; with several elements selected it aligns them relative to the card.

You can also right-click the canvas for quick actions — paste, add an image from a URL, add a math or code block, or duplicate the card.

Card styles

Cards come in three sizes (Medium is the default), with background colors and paper-style patterns. You can set your default card size and font size in the app's Settings.

Saving

SuperCards saves when you tell it to: the Save Changes button (or Cmd + S) saves every card you've edited this session in one go. You can flip through cards freely without losing unsaved edits — and if you close the editor with unsaved changes, it asks whether to save them. Undo and redo (Cmd + Z / Cmd + Shift + Z) work throughout.

The side panel

The panel on the right handles card management: save, create a new card, undo, redo, delete, and navigation between cards with a position indicator. Its exact configuration depends on the editor mode — see Quick Cards vs. deck cards.
