While automatic cloud-based syncing will be available in future releases, the SuperCards beta offers manual syncing to reduce development complexity and costs while giving users complete control over their data. Once decks are exported as JSON files, they won't require any network availability to be accessed.
Step 1: Export Decks from Desktop App
From the Desktop App:
- Open SuperCards Desktop App
- Click the SuperCards icon in your menu bar
- Select "View Library" from the dropdown
- Export Your Library
- In the Library window, look for an export option (typically in the menu or toolbar)
- Choose "Export Library" or similar option
- This will create a supercards_export.json file containing:
- All your deck metadata
- All cards with their content
- Card styling and positioning information
- Save the Export File
- Choose a location you can easily access
- The file will be named something like supercards_export.json
- Note the save location for the next step
Step 2: Transfer the Export File to Your iPhone
Method A: Using iCloud Drive (Recommended)
- On Desktop:
- Save or copy the supercards_export.json file to iCloud Drive
- You can create a "SuperCards" folder in iCloud Drive for organization
- On iPhone:
- The file will automatically sync and be available in the Files app
Method B: Using AirDrop (Mac to iPhone)
- On Mac:
- Right-click the supercards_export.json file
- Select "Share" > "AirDrop"
- Select your iPhone from the list
- On iPhone:
- Accept the incoming file
- Choose to save it to the Files app
Method C: Using Email
- On Desktop:
- Email the supercards_export.json file to yourself
- On iPhone:
- Open the email
- Tap and hold the attachment
- Select "Save to Files"
Step 3: Import Decks into the iOS App
- Open SuperCards iOS App
- Launch the app on your iPhone
- Navigate to the "Library" tab (second tab in the bottom navigation)
- Start the Import Process
- If your library is empty, you'll see an "Import from Desktop" button
- If you already have decks, tap the menu button (⋯) in the top right
- Select "Import from Desktop"
- Select the Export File
- The Files picker will open
- Navigate to where you saved the supercards_export.json file
- Tap the file to select it
- Wait for Import to Complete
- The app will show "Loading library..." while importing
- This may take a few seconds depending on the number of decks and cards
- Verify Your Decks
- Once complete, you'll see your decks displayed in a grid
- Each deck shows:
- Deck thumbnail or first letter
- Deck title
- Number of complete cards (only complete cards are shown on mobile)
Step 4: Start reviewing your cards!
- Select a Deck
- Tap on any deck in your library
- This will open Study Mode
- Mark Favorites
- Decks marked as favorites will show a star icon
- Favorite decks appear on the Home screen for quick access
